いろんなカラーがあるペットボトルキャップは、ハンドメイドパーツにアップサイクルできるお宝アイテム。本ワークショップでは、キャップの原材料やその特性を知り「使える素材（チップ）」にするところから体験いただけます。

PET bottle caps come in a variety of colors and are treasures that can be upcycled into handmade parts. In this workshop, you will learn about the raw materials and characteristics of the caps, and also experience the process of transforming them into "usable materials (chips).

ペットボトルキャップを「使える素材（チップ）」にする作業から体験

いろんなカラーがあるペットボトルキャップは、ハンドメイドパーツにアップサイクルできるお宝アイテム。けれど、ペットボトルキャップと一言で言っても、実は原材料や固さに違いがあります。

本ワークショップでは、キャップの原材料やその特性を知り「使える素材（チップ）」にするところから体験いただけます。ひと手間かけて作ったペットボトルキャップのチップは、組み合わせや混ざり方によってより魅力的な素材になります。このチップを使って、小物入れや小さな植木鉢の受け皿などに使える、カラフルでキュートなトレイを作ります。

PET bottle caps actually vary in raw materials and hardness.In this workshop, participants will learn about the raw materials and characteristics of PET bottle caps and experience the process from the time they are made into "usable materials (chips). Chips made from PET bottle caps become more attractive materials depending on how they are combined and mixed. Using these chips, participants will make colorful and cute trays that can be used as a receptacle for small items or flowerpots.

本ワークショップは大人の方を参加対象としていますが、親子でのご参加も可能です。ただし、ペットボトルキャップは、小さくて意外に固く、チップにする作業はある程度の力が必要です。安全面を考慮し、親子参加の方がチップ素材にする作業は、大人の方に限定させていただきます。チップの組み合わせを考えたりトレイにしていくまでにいろんな楽しい工程があります。ご理解いただき、お子さんと一緒に楽しんでいただけますよう、お願い致します。


This workshop is geared toward adults, but parents and children are welcome to participate. However, PET bottle caps are small and surprisingly hard and require a certain amount of force to turn them into chips. For safety reasons, the process of turning them into chips is limited to adults. There are many fun processes involved, such as the process of making trays and thinking of combinations of chips. We hope that parents and children will understand and enjoy this event together.

教えてくれるのは、アップサイクルハンドメイドブランド「FLAVASTA」さん

「FLAVASTA（フレーバスタ）」さんは、東京をメインに活動をするアップサイクルハンドメイドブランド。
"世界をつなぐ、環境に優しいカラフルライフ" というテーマで様々な国の素材やアップサイクルしたパーツを組み合わせて作品を作っています。 代表的なアップサイクルパーツはペットボトルキャップなどのPP素材を手作業でアップサイクルした【flavastaevol】というパーツ。 素材だけでなく色の組み合わせにも拘りを持ち、柄×柄や以外な色の組み合わせも纏めるのが得意！ ゴミになるアレコレを身に付けたくなるアレコレに変身させ、日常を楽しんでくれたら嬉しいです。

The lecturer is "FLAVASTA," an upcycled handmade brand based in Tokyo.
Under the theme of "connecting the world through colorful and eco-friendly living," they create works by combining materials and upcycled parts from various countries.

Message from FLAVASTA
アップサイクルを始めたきっかけは、小さい頃からゴミを活かして工作をしたり新しいものを作るのが好きでした。その頃はアップサイクルやリサイクルみたいな意識はなく、「こんなに可愛いものが捨てられちゃうなんて」「何かに使えないかなぁ？」と、置物や箱、アクセサリーを作ったりしていました。

ハンドメイドを始めてからもその気持ちは変わらずハギレなどを使って作品を作っていたのですが、ある時ペットボトルキャップのゴミ箱が宝石箱に見えて！

とってもカラフルで溢れたゴミ箱の中身。コレらを何かに変えられないかなぁ？とその場で調べてみると"pp素材は毒性がないので安全に溶かせる""割と低い熱で溶ける"と記載されていました。「それなら家にあるもので出来るんじゃない？」とアイロンを当ててみると、タイダイのような可愛いプレートが出来上がり、キュンとしたのです！

最初は今のようにきれいにできませんでしたが回数を重ねるうちに特性が分かってきて、綺麗に作る方法や厚みを変える方法、立体の物を作る方法を独自で編み出しました。什器や型を使わずに、全て手作業でpp素材をアップサイクルしているのがFLAVASTA独自のポイント！きっとまだ可能性はあるはず！


I started upcycling because I've loved crafts since I was a kid and I loved using trash to make new things." I was making ornaments, boxes, and accessories, thinking, "How could something so cute be thrown away? I was making ornaments, boxes, and accessories.

After I started making handmade items, I continued to make pieces using hagiwire and other materials, and one day I saw a trash can that looked like a jewelry box made from plastic bottle caps!

The contents of the trash can were so colorful and overflowing. Couldn't I turn this into something else? I looked into it and found that "pp material is non-toxic and can be safely melted" and "melts at relatively low heat. I found out that "pp material is harmless and can be safely melted" and "melts at relatively low heat". When I ironed it on, I was thrilled to see the cute tie-dye-like plate it produced!

At first I couldn't do it as beautifully as I do now, but after a few times I began to understand its characteristics, and I was able to devise my own ways to make it beautiful, change its thickness, and create something three-dimensional. What is unique about FLAVASTA is that we do not use jigs or molds, but upcycle pp materials entirely by hand! There are surely still more possibilities!
